When satellite internet makes sense for a business site
A practical look at rural sites, clear-sky requirements, mounting, Wi-Fi inside the building and what support looks like afterwards.
Satellite internet has become a realistic option for businesses that can't get a good fixed-line service. It isn't the right answer for every site, though, and a good result depends as much on the installation as on the plan.
Sites where it works well
- Farms, depots and rural premises where the nbn is fixed wireless, slow or not available.
- Temporary or seasonal sites that need a connection quickly.
- Businesses that want a second, independent connection alongside the nbn.
What the dish needs
The dish needs a clear view of the sky, without trees, roof lines or other buildings in the way. That usually means mounting it on the roof, a wall bracket or a pole, then running weatherproofed cabling into the building. Getting this right first time avoids drop-outs that are hard to diagnose later.
Inside the building
A fast connection at the dish can still feel slow at the desk if the Wi-Fi doesn't reach. Plan where the router goes, whether you need extra access points, and how phones and EFTPOS will connect.
Costs to expect
There are three parts: the satellite kit, the monthly plan, and the installation. We install from $600, including travel, the mount, cabling and weatherproofing, and quote before any work starts. You can buy the kit and plan in your own name, or we can supply the kit for you.
Support afterwards
With your permission we're added to your satellite account, so we can check the service, help with faults and arrange replacement parts. See how our satellite service works.
